Inclusion sometimes begins with learning to say "hello" with our hands. On 27 September, St Anthony's Church hosted the International Day of Sign Languages 2026 celebration, organised by the Catholic Ministry for the Deaf (CMfD). Guided by this year's theme, "Declaring Deaf People's Human Rights," the event featured a sign-language Rosary and Mass, alongside moving personal stories highlighting faith, resilience, and the power of connection.

Sign language is much more than hand gestures—it is a distinct language, culture, and identity. It serves as a bridge that gives Deaf individuals the freedom to share their thoughts, talents, dreams, and faith. True inclusion demands removing communication barriers across education, healthcare, employment, and Church life. By learning sign language and listening with our eyes, we ensure Deaf community members are not merely welcomed, but fully seen, valued, and empowered to lead.
